The Florida Republican Party has deserted Katherine Harris. Now first off, let me say this: The FLAGOP is cowardly for doing this. Like it or not, she's the nominee. Your job isn't to chose the nominee, thats up to the voters. Your job is to support the candidate of your party no matter what her poll numbers are like. This move is disgraceful.
But I can understand it. Rep. Harris has run a disasterous campaign thus far, marked by terribly low poll numbers, continuies campaign staff changes at the top, and an inability to make any kind of inroads into anything but the hardcore right wing. She clearly just is not suited for state-wide elections. Certainly you can feel any way you want about what happen in 2000, but Rep. Harris needs to realize what a polarizing figure she is, and what happened in 2000 is still too fresh in many peoples memories. Is it fair? It might not be, I don't think it is. But she does herself no favors. In the end, this is politics, and Rep. Harris has let her own ambition get in the way of reality. Bill Nelson is a vunerable incumbant, be the challenger Jeb Bush or Mark Foley or Porter Goss or Allen Bense or Connie Mack. I can't understand how Harris doesn't read the writing on the wall.
But despite all of that, the Florida GOP's duty is to work for her. Its a disgrace that they act this way.
