That is a very poignant picture. I may have to steal it!

Byrd was right about "eventually the truth will emerge," but I think history will be a whole lot kinder to Bush than his contemporaries are.

You're probably too young to remember how Reagan, too, was vilified.

Badrose--steal away, thats what I did.

I was too young, but I'm a history buff so I know all too well.

Who is the third guy in the picture? Looks like Harry Reid, one of those evil Democrats, and I don't think he was plotting to kick the chair out from under ol' Senator Byrd.
So, defense of Bush has come to this -- he helps an old guy get into a chair. That says a lot right there. Iraq is a disaster, New Orleans is still a mess, we can't take care of our maimed soldiers properly until the Washington Post runs an expose but, hey, Bush helps an old fellow into a chair, so lay off of him.
This really is the essence of what's left of the Bush defenders -- they still seem to think that since his basic intentions appear to be good, results don't really matter. But they do, as the voters said in '06 and will say again in '08, unless Bush changes course, and right now that seems about as likely as the Washington Nationals winning the World Series!

No, Reid isn't about to kick the chair out from under Byrd.

But he sure helped kick the chair out from under Trent Lott, a man with a much better past than the gentleman Bush is helping to his chair.

"Bush is better than his enemies"

You just proved it. You can't even give the man his due for his compassion and sinceirty. It all has to come back to personal destruction.

Thank you for proving my point.

Chris I grew up in Texas when he was Governor. I come from a 95% Democratic household, even a few of us voted for him in 1998. He's not the same person, and sure the game in DC is a lot different. I really thought he would have changed the tone in Washington, but with his Svengali Rove, he's made it worse than it was in 2000. The Democrats aren't clean in this either.

Well you need a partner to change the tone, asmith--and the Democrats from the very beginning have shown no interest in helping him. When Bush got to Washington he let Democrats write the Education Bill, and consulted them on everything. Far from the "imperial presidency" so many of you Dems claim, Bush has let Congress have free reign on legislation and only asks for up and down votes. He went to Congress for Iraq authorization and got it overwhelmingly. Now i know your guys are trying to hide from this vote by claiming Bush "lied" so they won't have to be held accountable, but its just not true. Bush did everything he could to "change the tone" but that is impossible. Democrats routinely slapped Bush in the face when he reached out to them becasue of the nature of his election. The Democratic Party has moved so far into the hate-Bush camp that if we capture bin Laden TOMMOROW, theyw on't celebrate.

And why do people hate Rove so much? You all consistantly talk about the politics of desctruction, name me one person Bush has "destroyed" and I'll give you FIVE the Clintons tormented. Valerie Plamne? Its clear her name only got out by gossip. Max Cleland? There was nothing wrong pointing to his voting record. The fact is, Rove's job was to win elections and you all HATE him becasue taht is exactly what he did.

So don't give me this "Bush changed" bs. He is the only one who hasn't changed. All the Dems and some Rs are RUNNING from their votes in 2002, 2003, and smacking Bush whule they do it.

You NEVER see Bush or his White House make derogitory comments on the record about enemies the way these various senators, congressmen, and pundits routinely try and tear him down.

"You NEVER see Bush or his White House make derogatory comments on the record about enemies the way these various senators, congressmen, and pundits routinely try and tear him down."

Right on Chris.
