"He is a proven conservative leader"

Those are the words of ex-Gov. Jim Gilmore in his endorsement of Senator John McCain. This is good to see, as I previously blogged about the potential problems that could have occured between McCain and Gilmore. Here is the rest of Gilmore's statement:

"He is a proven conservative leader with a track record of cutting taxes, eliminating wasteful government spending, upholding our traditional values and promoting a strong national defense"

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Virginia is a big test for McCain right now, and he could use this (and the rest of the Potomac states) to prove that he could put the nail in Huckabee. He didn't this weekend, where Huck scored a big win in Kansas, while splitting a pair of tight races in Washington and Lousiana. And with the higher turnout expected for the Democrats, McCain won't have as many independents to choose from. But McCain seems on solid group. The Tom Davis Republicans in Northern Virignia are a natural base ofr McCain, as is the military rich 2nd distirict around Hampton Roads. I expect Huckabee to do quite well, but we'll see if its enough.
