I had heard James Webb's son was in the Marines. Is that who is pictured with President Bush and Webb?
With a little luck, maybe his son picked up a little more sense than he did.

Wow, Jim Webb and George W. Bush look extremely uncomfortable in this picture. Nonetheless, I am proud of Webb's son and his dedication to our country.

No word yet if Senator Webb took a swing at President Bush
. . .
Yet.

Webb took a swing, but was knocked out by Ollie North!

This meet and greet was scheduled by Webb and Bush as a way to smooth over the callous remarks Webb made when he joined other newly elected Senators for their introduction meeting at the White House.
You may recall that Webb's terse response to Bush when the President asked how Webb's Marine son was doing, made national headlines.
Webb's folks are saying this later meeting with the President was supposed to show Webb is not the hot head portrayed by the Press and is becoming a more polished as his experience in the Senate grows.
I served under Jim Webb and he remains one of the few senior level leaders whom I know who have the courage to stand up for what they see is right. He resigned as Secretary of the Navy, rather than support major budget cuts to the Navy's programs. He ran for the Senate as a Democrat (Yuk!) rather than just parrot the Neocon party line.
People may dislike Webb for his brashness, or just because he crossed over to the Donkeys, but he stands up for what HE believes in and he still impresses me as a man of integrity, who is one of few in Congress who are not owned by the multinational corporations.
It's creepy that he is with the Democrats, especially when he endorses sleazoids like Leslie Byrne, but, for now, he is our junior senator and he seems to be acting in the best interest of Virginia and the USA, on most occasions.

And whatever I may think of his political positions, I have nothing but profound respect and admiration for Sen. Webb and the great service his family have given over many generations. God bless them!

hey check it out 2 American heroes and a chickenhawk!

Were there actually people who somehow managed to miss that Sen. Webb's son is serving honorably in the Marines? I would not call Prez Bush a chickenhawk, due to his ANG service. I think I would probably call VP Cheney a chickenhawk. The term never applied to Jim Webb. He is whatever the term is for the opposite of a chickenhawk, if there is one. A chickenhawk is a politician who supports war but who has never personally seen combat or more pointedly who avoided combat or the draft. Like his current politics or not and I do not, Senator Webb is a Vietnam combat vet who served with distinction. I didn't vote for Senator Webb, and I don't like some of his wackier outbursts and brashness, but if he wants to come out and endorse Byrne over Connolly he's done a good deed for the people in 11. Let's hope they come to their senses and go for Fimian anyway. If they don't, I'd have to say it is ABC: anybody but Connolly.
