A Retraction
Never let it be said that a blogger isn't above retracting a post. Concerning my post on the 11th District Convention, I have been contacted and assured by Jim Parmalee that any statement he made concerning HB3202 vis-a-vie Jay O'Brien was not what I thought it was. Parmalee has assured me that he did not direct any comments towards O'Brien.
Call it a case of misplaced anger on my part. The entire episode surrounded a resolution condeming HB3202, and too me there is no difference between condemning the bill and condemning the senators who voted for it - O'Brien being one of them. Parmalee did say something, but I believe him that it wasn't directed at O'Brien, who was also on stage. From my point of view, I thought have the entire 11th District Convention condemn the bill was overkill and really insulting to a lot of senators and delegates, who may have been wrong and the Supreme Court decision reflected that already, but did not deserve to be slapped down by the entire convention. What these electeds were trying to do was get money for Northern Virginia and keep it here, and that effort deserves applause rather than condemnation. So while I apologize for calling out Jim Parmalee, I stand with Senator O'Brien and others in applauding the effort they made despite its ultimate failure.
