Cantor Talk Warming Up

RedState

Its the month of wild speculation for sure.  McCain-Cantor would be a bold choice for sure, and Cantor certainly is up to it through his years in Congress (more time, and with more responsibility, that a certain senator from Illinois).  The best part about nominating a young candidate like Cator or Jindal or Palin is the light it will show on Obama.  These three have accomplished much more in their brief careers and any criticism of their records would have to boomerang around to Obama when you match the resumes.  Cantor is by far my top choice, so we'll see.

MCCAIN-CANTOR

Comments

I can see the Democratic response now....

"McCain Cant or, won't do anything"

Seriously, Congressman Cantor didn't recently support the DRILL Act, that would have forced those with existing leases to either produce, or surrender their leases, thus ending a major method of oil speculators' driving up prices.

His reason for not voting for the bill was stated that there was a pro labor provision about pipeline workers in the bill. Fair enough, but the bill had already been watered down to the point of barely being window dressing.

At least a small step in the right direction would have been accomplished. Randy Forbes and Virgil Goode voted for the DRILL Act, but not Mr. Cant-or-Won't.

Not VP material, not even Congressional material, anymore.

The "DRILL Act" was a complete fraud. It opened up no new resources for actual drilling. The pro-labor provisions just made a bad bill worse. Drilling and exploration is a little more complex than the Democrats would like to have us all believe.

Cantor did the right thing.

Do you know how to spell?

You've got to be joking right? Go ahead and push for Cantor for VP. He'd be Dan Quayle 2.0.

Half of Jindal's resume consists of government-appointed positions in the Bush White House and by former La. Gov. Foster, which was based largely on political connections. His carpetbagging to the New Orleans suburbs from his home base of Baton Rouge after he lost the 2003 Governor's race would nullify GOP claims of Obama's supposed "political expediency". It was clear Jindal only warmed that Congressional seat until Blanco's term was up last year, so the "moving too fast" argument applied to Obama would just look silly (as it is now).

Dick Cheney had years of experience in the Nixon White House, Congress, the Pentagon, and as Vice President. He has failed miserably. Bush was supposedly an "effective" and "bipartisan" governor, but he has been the most partisan leader in years. He was barely re-elected in 2004. He severly blundered key aspects of the war. He has accomplished little on the domestic front since 2005--a complete waste of a second presidential term. Having a thick resume doesn't ensure competency--at all.

Hey RicJohn,

I think someone who would vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama shouldn't be complaining about Jindal being a "carpetbagger." Bobby Jindal worked hard for the people in his district and for Louisiana. He did a lot more for the State than absentee Gov. Blanco. Jindal lives in and represents an area in the State where he was born and worked. Thus, this contradits the very definition of "carpetbagger."

As far as Bush and Cheney being failures, what kind of drugs have you been smoking? The tax cut has brought in record amounts of Federal revenue. By all accounts, our troops are winning in Iraq (though yes, the surge should have been implemented sooner). Bush won more votes in 2004 than in 2000 and increased his margins in 45 out of 50 States, remember?

Yes, there are things for which I fault Bush, such as not having vetoed enough spending bills before 2006. But let's face it, a lot of our problems come from Democrat obstructionism (such as on energy) and influence peddling (such as with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) than from Bush himself.

Bush and Cheney have taken a much stronger stand against terrorism than the Clinton Administration. Do you want Obama to be in there sucking up to the terror sponsors? Barry will be the best thing since Jiminy Peanutbrain!
