FoxNews says its basically a done deal. I wonder what Moran and Deeds are thinking now, especially with this quote:
"He has already lined up the backing of former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and sitting Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, who is prohibited by law from seeking a second consecutive term."
Link in your post isn't working but I found it here http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/02/terry-mcauliffe-run-virginia-governor/

What a interesting political year 2009 will be. It seems a bridge too far for McAuliffe to defeat guys like Deeds and Moran who've basically run for the job since 2006.
It seems quixotic, but who knows. The guy can certainly raise the scratch to do it.

But does McAuliffe have the backing already of Mark Warner and Tim Kaine?

I wouldn't trust Fox News on that one there Chris. Especially as it relates to Warner - look where Mame Reilly is.

Brimur, how do you feel about McAuliffe running? There is no question he's been a significant force in the Democratic party, but that's been the national party not the state party. Has he done a lot for the state party and I don't know it.
