Great poll news for Bob McDonnell that has been all over the blogs. McDonnell leads everyone pretty well, but most interesting is that he holds the biggest lead over Terry McAullife. I remain optimistic, but cautiously so; just because of how we have had our hearts broken year after year despite good early poll numbers.
But I think this will be different. McDonnell appeals in areas guys like Kilgore and Earley did not . .. both of them had regional appeal or simple ideological appeal. Neither were strong enough candidates to reach outside of their base and thus they both lost. McDonnell, on the other hand, has roots, appeal, and a style that can work statewide.
What McDonnell is doing now is also important, and something that his two predecessors couldn't do because of primary/convention challenges. He is building a warchest and a brand new organization. He is also working to use that organization to build up and entire Republican field.
Virginians for Gun Control is VERY optimistic about the fact that a strong advocate for gun control is leading in the polls.
It's not every day that we get anti-gun Republicans as our nominee for Governor.
Gun-control advocates all across Virginia should praise Bob McDonnell for his support of gun control, and make sure you attend all his rallies with flyers and posters thanking him for his past pro gun-control voting record.
Go, Bob. With you we'll finally get guns off the street in Virginia!!
