President Obama called for education reform and federal spending to ensure that we lessen our worrisome dropout rate and failure in education for many of our citizens. Which is why the president needs to back up his talk and fight for the 1,700 kids in the DC school voucher program. Every thing that the president vowed the other night is represented in this program. It allows for kids who aren't getting a chance in life, who are largely urban and minority, to go to a school paid for by the government that meets the standards of a great education. These kids are as smart as anyone else, they just need a chance. The Democrats in Congress, who clearly worry more about teacher's union votes than the welfare of minority children, have already betrayed the president's call for education reform. Obama can fix that and I hope his character is strong enough to back up his rhetoric.
