I'm going to go on a limb here and give the edge to Mir.

Chris

eeeeeeh, I'm leaning slightly in Brock's favor . . . size, strength, and he's gotten much better in the last year with dominating wins over Herring and the crafty Couture

A.G.Gilmore

I don't think size and strength will be so important. His mat skills are not that good, haven't been since college. I think that's going to be the game-changing moment.

Also, I don't think wins over Herring and Courture are all that impressive. Courture (one of my favorites) is getting older.

Herring has been going downhill ever since he was mandhandled by Fedor.

I still give the edge to Mir BECAUSE of his mat skills

Perm

Mir is going down. Coincidentally he is one of my other favorite fighters but his 3 fight win streak hasn't been filled top level fighters either. (Hardonk, Rookie Lesnar, Sick Nogueria)

(Don't care if i spelled that right)

mir keeps bashing Lesnars abilities and progress. His overconfidence will be the losing factor for him.

Funny thing is both have improved and both are probably making the mistake of remembering how the other was from their last fight.

Lesanr will win though.

I really don't think it's that easy to just write off Mir. Yes, Brock Lesnar was a national champion wrestler, but the only match i've watched of his that he showed "domination" all around was in his bout against Wes Hand from Iowa. His strength is not from his technique, it's from his strength. If you get him on the mat, it levels the playing field. I cannot imagine he's gotten much better technically. Yes, he's trained with great fighers, but matches are where you make most of your gains and he's had a grand total of 4.

I still love how both of these guys think they can beat Fedor Emelianenko.

4x world sambo champion
7x Russian combat Sambo Champion
30-1-1 MMA record.

Brock Lesnar:
1x College National Champion Wrestler
WWE "SUPASTAR"
NFL training camp drop out
4-1 MMA

Frank Mir:
Black Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
12-3 MMA record.

My problem with Fedor is for whatever reason he is ducking the real talent that the UFC has. He hasn't fought top-tier talent since Cro Cop in 2005. The best since then, Arlovski, was dominating him until he jumped at him arms down like a retard and got blasted. Now Barnett is an interesting test case for Fedor, but I also think Barnett is overrated a bit too.

Think about what the UFC is doing now . . . first off start with Lesnar. He's a monster. someone with size, speed, and an instinct for this game. Then there is Mir, who has found a stand-up game to go with his BJJ and has turned into a real ceribrial fighter. Then there is Randy Couture, the crafty vet who is dying to fight Fedor. Add in phenoms like Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez, Junior Dos Santos, and maybe even Justin McCaully. And now the UFC is doing a whole TUF season of heavyweights.

I'm not saying any of them can beat Fedor, but Feder IMO will never be the real pound-for-pound king until he comes to the UFC and fights these guys. St. Pierre, Anderson Silva . .. they are really pushing themselves to the limit. St. Pierre has fought or is fighting Thiago Alves, BJ Penn, Jon Fitch, Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, Josh Koscheck. Silva's been getting some bad opponents lately, so what does he do? Move up to 205 to fight the fighter that never backs down - Forrest Griffin.

Fedor needs to come to the UFC not because I'm a mark who doesn't like other promotions. For Fedor to be the greatest, he needs to fight the best guys out there. For me, you need to fight that troika of Couture/Mir/Lesnar.

Chris: saying that Fedor is "ducking" the talent that's in UFC is a pretty big twist on what's happening. You're telling the side of the story that Dana White likes to tell, and that's about it. If you watch any interview with (just about) any fighter in the world, they say hands down that Fedor Emelianenko is the best pound for pound fighter. This list includes GSP, Kevin Randleman, Bas Ruten along with about every MMA website, magazine, etc.

Also, if you watch the fight between Emelianenko and Arlovski, there was no "domination". None of the punches Arlovski landed were clean (Fedor had no bruising or swelling post fight) and it was nothing more than Fedor feeling out an admittedly fast fighter. It's also a bit flippant to say that Arlovski was a "retard" in the fight because he tried a flying knee. It's a part of the match, and he paid the cost. The fact that Fedor knocked him out with one punch says volumes about his punching power.

And why exactly is Barnett over-rated and people like Lesnar or Mir are not? He's 24-5, and 3 of those losses have come from Flipovic. Not a bad resume. He's 6-3, 251 which is about as scary as Lesnar's 6-3, 265 and he's fought about 8x as many people as Lesnar has.

Yeah, UFC has some great heavyweights, but none of them reach the caliber of Fedor. While Lesnar and Mir sit around and talk about how powerful and great fighters they are, Emelianenko speaks very little. People complain that he doesn't fight much, but it is because he competes in world competitions in Sambo (something none of the "troika" can claim.) This past year in the Russian Combat Sambo tournament Fedor defeated his finals opponent in 36 seconds. Not bad if you ask me. Just because Fedor isn't "pushing himself in UFC", doesn't mean he's not pushing himself against some of the best competitors on the world stage, and to suggest otherwise is patently false. I say again: 4x World Combat Sambo Champion, 7x Russian Combat Sambo Champion.

The only person in the "troika" who comes close to matching Fedor's resume is Couture. He competed actively in Greco-Roman wrestling and was quite successful. Unfortunately his last competition was over a decade ago. To compare MMA fights (which I hate doing), Fedor defeated Sylvia in 36 seconds, Couture by unanimous decision. Couture lost to the over-rated Josh Barnett and I suppose we'll see what happens at Affliction.

I know this discussion really shouldn't be about Fedor, but suggesting that somehow Fedor hasn't proven himself deserves a response. Youtube has a fantastic documentary on the guy. Search "Fedor Emelianenko Documentary"

can't wait to watch Mir vs Lesnar! :)

Henderson is the only one of those picks that's NOT a lock. The others were correct. Bisping will win a close decision.
