Yesterday I went to a small John Cook (Braddock District supervisor) for an ice cream fundraiser and close to 60 or so people showed up, a great turnout. Its very important to make sure we support John Cook, who is fighitng the good fight on the Board of Supervisors, because he took a seat away from the Democrats in Fairfax county. We need to make sure that that seat stays in our hands for the forseable future. John talked about for the first time in years, the Fairfax budget actually reduced spending. Both he and Pat Herrity spoke at length about their partnership (along with Mike Frey) in trying to point out so much of the ridiculousness of much of what the county spends on. Herrity spoke up next and talked about the ultimate goal in a two and half years is to take over the Board, and sees the road to that going through Drainesville and Mouth Vernon (both carried by Herrity) with himself taking down Bulova.
The more interesting new was Ketih Fimian, who announced he will be running for Congress again, or at least filing. He sounded like he was running to me. He talked a lot about the problems this country is having by using his own inspection business as an example. He's had to cut things down and let people go because of the economy, and believes that the problems facing small businesses are being hurt by tax increases, the health care bill, and other congressional follies. He lambasted Gerry Connolly for sending out constituent letters with ______ written for whatever issue they might be worried about. Fimian ran a good race last time, and I think he should get a chance to finish what he started. The other candidate in the 11th is Paul Miller, who seems nice but is was president of the American League of Lobbyists. Thank you, no. I'll pass. Fimian's background as a small business owner and his credibility as a strong conservative with real world experience makes him the logical choice. But I think a primary would be good, it would help both guys get their organization ready and get the local party engaged early on. Remember, in 2010 Connolly's seat will be the only thing on the ballot.
I live in Wolf's district so am glad that I don't have to choose between Fimian and Miller. I know Paul personally and he is a great guy. The kids at St. Timothy think the world of him as a coach. Obviously, Keith's brother was a priest at St. Tim's and Keith was around alot and is really great also.
