I'm hearing from the ground that Pat Herrity is now seriously considering running for Congress against Gerry Connolly. The reasoning seems to be that a race for Congress might be easier to win and maintain than a race for Chairman. Herrity has replaced Tom Davis as the kingpin of Republican politics in Fairfax and Herrity is surrounding by old Davis hands looking to get back to Congress. Also, a race against Connolly in 2010 when its the only race on the ballot might be more winnable given the national mood. Plus, its less risky. If Herrity runs for Congress he can still be a supervisor, but if he runs for chairman and loses he's out of the game.
The real question is what will happen with Keith Fimian? Fimian and Herrity are close, and are frequently seen together at GOP events. Herrity was clearly supporting Fimian where there was a chance of a primary with Paul Miller. I'm not sure there is much of a difference between Herrity and Fimian so I don't know what a will happen there.

I don't think Herrity will run. While Fairfax government thinks its the center of the world it doesn't touch positively enough on people. Herrity can't outraise Fimian, Herrity can't use the corporart donors that funded his failed bid for Chairman and even with them Fimian has raised a lot more money.
Then is Herrity prepared to battle for the conservatives?

Pat has my vote. Fimian is too busy raising money to respond to fellow GOP activist.

The 11th CD GOP is meeting on Thursday night in Miller's Tavern in the City of Fairfax to vote on whether or not to choose nominees by Convention or Primary. The result could be a big factor in who decides to run.
Fairfax County Chair Bedell, Fairfax City Chair Kaplan, and 11th CD Vice Chair Herrington - three of the biggest supporters of a Primary - will not be able to attend. It will be interesting to see who picks up the fight.

Haven't lived in Fairfax County for a dozen years. Is Herrity anything like his Dad? I loved, in the old days, watching Jack Herrity and Audrey Moore lobbing hand grenades at each other, both entertaining and substantive. Or is he more like the twins separated at birth -- Tom Davis and Kate Hanley?

Fimian has little to no local support for his bid for congress, he has out of state corporate donors. Herrity is a trusted name for the conservative cause in Fairfax. Fimian is not. Fimian only ran because he was personally wealthy. I want a record over money...because money will come, thats not an issue. Of course Fimian outraised Connolly, when your entire life for months is jetting around the country fundraising, you will get more money than the person who actually goes to work on a daily basis.

Pat Herrity? YES!!! Keith Fimian? Okay. To me, it was an ABC vote last time. I wasn't voting for him. I was voting against his opponent. I'd rather have a candidate like Pat, with strong ties to the local community and a record to run on.

I was at the RWC Christmas party last night. Over 120 folks there. Huge support for Fimian. Not much for Herrity.
