A friend of mine is at Herrity's announcement and let me know that Pat Herrity is running for Congress.
Let the fireworks begin.

Still don't know if this is such a good idea, given that two quality candidates battling in a primary only gives Connolly more of an opportunity to win.

Only one quality candidate in my book...he announced at 11AM this morning.

Gerry Connolly must be a very unhappy man today. Herrity getting in this race is definitely not what Connolly would have hoped for.

"Let the fireworks begin."
I know these things can get heated, but I don't expect this to be a nasty primary. Call me naive. I think this may be more a test of organizational skills.
My bet is on Herrity.

According to Virginia Virtucon, Fimian is already starting to crank up some heat on Herrity as some kind of "establishment" candidate who is "business as usual".
Quotations and descriptions mine, not Fimians, but that is the point he is trying to make about Herrity.

Sorry Dan. Keith's post calls Pat a career politician who ignores his job to seek the next one and says Bulova was right to attack him and that is why he lost against her.

Perhaps we should just put the names of all the residents of the district in a really big hat and pull out a name to see who our new Congressman should be? Then we would almost certainly be assured of getting an "outsider" who isn't part of the "establishment" and wouldn't have a clue how to do "business as usual" if they wanted to.
I hope Fimian makes a more serious appeal than that.

As long as we can bring it together in June, that's all I care about.

There is hardly any evidence to back up the charge that Herrity has ignored his job. He has been very effective. As part of a smaller minority than the Republicans in Congress he (and Frey and Cook) have positively influenced policy on the board.
This unfounded line of attack is ill advised. It sounds like sour grapes over Herrity seeking the same seat as Fimian.
If he was going to take this tack (which I find pretty lame) he should have at least waited a little while so it wouldn't look so knee jerk.
Fimian knows he is in a fight and that he ain't the favorite. He better get his legs under him fast.

I'm not surprised by this. Fimian is not to be underestimated and this maneuver proves it. Herrity asked for it when he made his candidacy official. Anything can happen in a primary and this is going to be an interesting one to watch!

What a disaster for the Republican party in Northern Virginia - we could have had both the 11th Congressional seat and the County Chairmanship. Fimian would have slaughtered Connolly in November (2010 will NOT be 2008 and a conservative with principles will trump any spendthrift liberal this fall) - now we won't have both. What a bad move by Herrity. Hopefully this will only invigorate Fimian's support. He certainly would be the stronger Republican candidate.
