Doc

Well, I didn't see Tom Davis' name on that endorsement list. Guess that means Pat really isn't Tom's sock puppet. Glad we finally got that settled.

But, Bedell endorsing a primary candidate, what's up with that?

NovaRep

This is ridiculous. I have known Anthony and Becky for a long time and trust both of them. The only person I can't trust is this blog for being unbiased. We all know you have been in the bag for Fimian since the start...and since it was a Primary, what "Party" machinery. If Keith wins, then the Party will help...but the fact he lost a top Unit Chairman and a great District Chairman should be evidence that maybe he should throw in the towel...get off your high horse, Chris.

Chris

First, I will stay on my high horse all I want.

Second, I like both Bedell and Becky - I know Becky pretty well and adore her. I actually am more critical of Bedell because Becky doesn't have real party machinery at her finger tips like Bedell has.

I've never made a secret of my support for Fimian, I endorsed him earlier this year because I like what he brings. And if you guys can't handle two paragraphs of criticism how on EARTH will you handle Gerry Connolly. All this "I've lost respect for Keith" is garbage considering half of you were rooting him on three months ago.

If the Heritty Campaign goes crazy on a couple of jabs in a primary, he will get eaten alive by Gerry Connolly - who is a political animal.

NovaRep

#1) I never was cheering Keith on...

#2) What does he bring substantive?

#3) It would behoove Keith and Pat to run a positive campaign...the fact that Gerry will be mean is not an argument for either of these two to be nasty to one another

#4) What Party machinery does Anthony have that is going to somehow make this unfair? I don't think he will be holding guns to precinct capatian's heads...he simply made a reasoned evaluation of both the candidates and picked the better one.

Local GOP

"And if you guys can't handle two paragraphs of criticism how on EARTH will you handle Gerry Connolly..."

Its VERY presumptuous to say that ANYONE (Which is basically what you said) who opposes Keith is a Herrity staffer.....

And when did ANYONE from the Herrity staff say or give the impression that they couldnt handle the drivel from Keith? Again, you are assuming a lot.

Keith has shown his arrogance here by basically saying "how dare anyone challenge" me....just like politics as usual that he claims to be combating....

What Fimian should have said:

"I congratulate Herrity on making the decision to run. I believe that a good primary is healthy competition that will only strengthen us as a party and after it is over I know we will work together for the most important purpse of defeating a tax and spend liberal."

But he didnt, he trashed, attacked, borderline lied, and made illogical knee-jerk assumptions about motives....politics as usual....

HAVE SOME CLASS KEITH......

Chris

"What party machinery does Anthony have?"

Are you serious? Is that a serious question?

James Young

I've always been of the belief that Party leaders, in a contested nomination contest, should eschew endorsements absent a "David Duke" problem. They operate the Party machinery, and can hardly be perceived as running a clean and fair process if they have endorsed one candidate over another.

That having been said, it is a somewhat lesser problem in a primary context, as this is. Of course, given that Herrity has the endorsements of Bedell and Stoeckel in hand, this raises the question of when they were tendered: before or after the 11th District Committee chose the nomination method?

And having Don Scoggins on your list is no help. This guy was the subject of a local newspaper article about how he voted for OBAMA in the 2008 election ... after having run to be a delegate to the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Anne

Chris has a right to support any candidate he wants at his blog! Even if he is backing the wrong horse, lol.

In answer to his question and concern in the original blog entry, I did have kind of a "wha--?!" reaction to seeing Bedell's and Stoeckel's endorsements on the list. Personally, I think whomever is the candidate ends up being will get a fair shake and full effort behind him. This is big seat to take back!

Anne

Wow, I'm tired and typing in cavespeak. I meant to say "whomever the candidate ends up being" and "a big seat."

Agree with Chris. It's gonna get ugly. This could have been avoided if everyone stayed in their lane. Fimian had a lane and a good campaign plan to beat Connolly.

Herrity had a lane to challenge and beat Bullova. But, Pat chose personal ambition and insider politics. Its the same careerist politics that has given us huge deficits, mistrust and ineffectual leaders such as Boehner, McConville, McCain, and Davis.

And now we're going to have an internecine fight between moderates and conservatives. Everyone will lose except the unprincipled and unscrupulous president of the House freshman class: Gerry Connolly. You should expect massive amounts of money and every Democrat dirty trickster in the nation to pore into Fairfax County to protect his butt.

On another note, just looking at the results of the Hunt election, that one was winnable. But, all these wizards that expect to beat Connolly watched it happen and didn't see the absentee ballot stunt coming. Or, maybe they saw it and did nothing to counteract it. Connolly's wrecking crew will pull stunts like by the hundreds. Better lock down all the graveyards, cuz all those folks will be voting in person and by absentee! And they won't be voting for Keith or Tom's special friend.

Yep, Chris is right. It is gonna be ugly.

Chris

I remember being at an event for John Cook this summer. Fimian and Herrity were both there and they got introduced as "the next congressman" and "the next chairman." So excuse me for being under the impression that our leaders decided on a path and basically let us know.

Herrity can do whatever he likes, but he's coming off as an oppurtunistic johnny-come-lately. Fimian has spent the last year talking to voters, holding health care forums, doing the hard legwork and actually talking about costs, spending, and how his background as a jobs-creating business man is the best for understand what the federal government is doing to us. I'm still waiting to hear from Herrity past the usual cautious statements.

And I don't deny either have ambition, its just been made clear to me in the last year that Fimian has been doing all the legwork even when Obama was still popular and isn't afraid to speak out on federal issues. Where has Pat been? If anyone should be speaking about federal affairs, its county government because they are getting screwed the most.

The Only Abnormal One Here

Chris is right.

As a Herrity supporter, I hope his campaign recognizes what Fimian is doing to him and responds appropriately, because his surrogates on the blogs obviously don't have a clue.

Fimian has hundreds of thousands of dollars in his warchest, no intention to go off into the night quietly because the big boys tell him to, and obviously learned a thing or two about politics from Gerry Connolly.

Brian W. Schoeneman

Chris, where Pat has been is out working to elect McDonnell, Bolling and Cuccinelli to office here in Virginia. My wife was McDonnell's team leader in Springfield and worked with Pat quite a bit on those races. I never saw Fimian in a single one of those meetings. Pat's pounded the pavement for all the local candidates in Fairfax, and helped John Cook tremendously. Where was Fimian?

What legwork has Fimian been doing? I heard him give a speech a few months back at the FCRC and it rambled all over the place. He spent all of his time talking about the number of people he's laid off because of the economy. Talk about tone deaf.

I really would prefer not to have to play these kinds of games, Chris. You know as well as I do how much Pat has done. Trying to argue that he's not been doing anything while Keith has is insulting.

Rick S

I think both candidates are fairly impressive. I don't have to make a decision so I say "fight fair" and let's beat Connolly in 2010.

KtzatRiva

Well I will tell you this I will NOT vote for Herrity. Get ready to split the party!

Chris

Absolutely not. We come together at the end.

Chris

Brian, I doubt Fimian was doing as much for Bob as Pat because he was focused on Connolly. He was holding health care forums, town hall meetings, and staged an opposition press conference in front of Connolly's office. I saw him at various functions around the area.

But the reason Fimian was focusing on Connolly was because we all assumed he would be the nominee after Miller dropped out. Pat was standing right next to him at a summer event for John Cook that I went too cheering him on.

Nobody figured Pat would come in and upset the apple cart here.

local GOP

Fimian focused on Connolly? Really?

Fimian held a health care forum, i give credit for that (although it was attended by vast majority republican insiders, but fine).

the town hall meetings you refer to are the health care forums so you cant give credit twice (although he may have held 2-3).

The joke of a press conference that was held outside Connollys office was attanded by no major media outlet, i dont consider the examiner to be a major media outlet, and was attended almost exclusively by the family of one of his staffers(i wont name names but NLS refered to this person comically as a campaign troll). And quite frankly, no one but bloggers even knew about it. So i dont give credit there.

No, what fimian was doing was raising money. flying all over America getting money for his campaign. He didnt lift a finger to help a single candidate (he gave a whole $850 out after raising hundreds of thousands). he didnt knock on a single door, make a single phone call that wasnt a fundraising call for himself.

While fimian was busy running for congress (which really started November 4th, 2008), Pat Herrity was working for the people of Springfield as the strongest voice for the control of government spending on the Board. As one who lives in his district (and receives his monthly updates) I know first hand all the work he has done to control government spending and keep our taxes low (despite the willingness of the BOS to raise them).

So I see, on one hand, a talker that spends his time raising money, and on the other, a man who fights daily against big government and has a PROVER RECORD to back it up (you know that thing we all criticized Obama for lacking, and rightfully so).

Im with Herrity (and no, im not being paid to say this so dont even go there).

Toya Lewis

Don Scoggins is a liability for any Republican's list.

First, he was FIRED from HUD (in lieu of criminal prosecution) for illegally taking Section 8 housing money for the tenements that he owned in DC. The government had to pay a huge amount of money after they condemned the rental properties that Scoggins owned and put the renters up in hotels for a long time before they could get on a list for decent housing.

Before that he was in a Civil Affairs army reserve unit that got activated for Desert Storm. The unit was in a stop loss, which means that nobody gets out and everybody goes to war. Scoggins whined, cried, and claimed discrimination, so they quietly let him out.

Now he publicly endorsed Obama, and Time Magazine quotes him as saying that Sarah Palin has no "intellectual acuity" and the people in the Republican party who care about right to life and second amendment should be kicked out the party. NOTE: Scoggins is not too bright, and could not possibly have come up with those words that he was quoted as saying. The logical question is "How much money did the Democrats pay him to use his name on their words?"

Scoggins should be kicked out of the party himself. Any candidate who uses Scoggins as an endorsement does not get my vote.

-I wonder if people would still support a candidate that strong arms a volunteer out of her position because she/he supports the opposition and does it using the head of the local GOP machine?
-I wonder how long is it going to take before 11th District constituents notice that ther IS a record of Herrity increasing the tax rate from $0.92 to $1.04
and other less talked about tax increases, yet he continues to VEHEMENTLY deny that his signature is on that raise?
-I wonder how long is it going to take for people to notice the incredible bias of the Local GOP in favor of Herrity and HOW he's using this as an extension of his own campaign machine? There isn't the slightest pretense of fairness!!!

All point to one fundamental flaw:
Character and integrity. It also reveals a more worrisome aspect. THE GOP ESTABLISHMENT AT WORK TO GET THEIR ANNOINTED MAN IN because they cannot financially control the other.....Wake up Republicans!!
You want to beat Connolly? Support the one that is one of us and has skin in the game, the one who has created REAL jobs w/ his own $. June 8th & on Nov.2nd I'm voting for Keith Fimian.
