. . . hearing that Chap Petersen will be running for attorney general in 2013, and not govenror.
Will Republicans in Fairfax be serious and try and find a real candidate to run against him for the state senate?

fairfax county and virginia need new blood in government. i think a young, yet experienced candidate would be best

Aron - who did you have in mind?

I don't know this is a shock...I sort of figured part of teh charm of Chap! going to the State Senate was his ability to run statewide and not give up his seat.
However, the real question is who the Dems plan to run for the #1 spot. Having Chap! run for AG or LG does not help Gerry C (assuming he holds his seat) run for the top spot...

I hope Chap! runs because he would make a good governor (even if I don't agree with him on everything).

Last time he tried to run for both he got a bit more push back than he liked, and dropped out of his house race at the last minute.
A solid R name could do it again - does Supervisor Cook live in the Senate District? Anyone in the McDonnell administration? Does Tim Hugo want to move up? LeMunyon?
Don't forget the lines will be redrawn first (2011) - so someone new could be drawn in or out of the contest.

Chris, if anyone would know this it would be me. The truth is Chap is running for re-election in 2011- in a seat that hasn't re-elected a contested incumbent since 1979. I asked him last month about some of the rumors and 2013 hasn't even crossed his mind yet. Seriously.

to answer not jim morans question...the fairfax county gop honestly has a number of capable, qualified people who meet my description.
The idea that Cook, Hugo or LeMunyon should run is a joke. Cook is going to run for reelection in Braddock (he is the strongest candidate there). Tim Hugo would have no reason to run for the state senate, he just became caucus chair. And LeMunyon just got elected and is focused on representing his people not moving up the ladder.
The people I am thinking of are the people who helped get all of the republicans in fairfax elected. I am talking about the people who were on the campaigns and people in their office staff. look at all the offices of the republicans and you see a whole list of fresh blood that are ready to help take back fairfax county.

The other problem with Cook, Hugo and LeMunyon running against Chap is none of them live in his district- and only Cook has more than a couple precinct overlap. Cook lives in Saslaw's district, Hugo lives in Barker's district, and LeMunyon lives in Herring's district. Cook has 10 precincts (out of 45) that overlap with Chap (his largest district is Providence), LeMunyon has 1 of 45, and Hugo has 0 of 45.

exactly my point NLS!

Ben, I hear what your saying but if you believe that then your letting your friend lie to you. I do believe he is 100% focused on reelection, but his chance is soon to move up.
The only way the GOP knocks him off is if somehow they split Fairfax City between two Senate districts and with the Democrats runing the state senate, I doubt that will happen
