That could be the GOP when it comes down to candidate recruitment this year. Consider this
- New Mexico: Lt. Governor John Sanchez is pondering a run in America's most hispanic state, but he would have to get through former Rep. Heather Wilson
- Texas: Both Ted Cruz and Michael Williams are running strong for the US Senate nomination.
- Ohio: News is out now that Ken Blackwell could be in for the US Senate race against Sherrod Brown
These are high-profile races and control of the Senate could run through Ohio and New Mexico along with states like VA, MT, amd MO. These aren't podunk nominations given to be a sacraficial lamb to an unbeatable Democrat incumbent. And then you look at the Democrats and their recruitment over the last few years and you see a pretty lily-white crowd - and not to mention the Democrats (including the president) abandoning Kendrick Meek, a lifelong Democrat since he was a kid, in favor of turncout no-account Charlie Crist.
Oh, and what potential presidential candidate is making conservatives swoon? Herman Cain, of course.
And what else do Cruz, Sanchez, Williams, and Blackwell have in common? They aren't squshy establishmnet moderates, they are Tea Party candidates. You know, the racists Tea Party that hates everyone?
The conservative movement is very diverse. I am very excited about Ken Blackwell potentially running in Ohio. I am hoping that he will get the opportunity to run in a year that is not so horrible for Republicans as was 2006.
Also, not to be a spammer...but Ted Cruz is going to make a swing through Virginia to attend the Awakening Conference in Lynchburg that takes place on April 8-9 at Liberty University. People can come and hear him and a whole bunch of other important people speak for free.

"I am very excited about Ken Blackwell potentially running in Ohio."
I am betting that Sherrod Brown would be pretty excited to have Blackwell as his opponent too. Brown's re-elect numbers already look fairly strong. Nominate Blackwell and I'd go to Intrade and place a heavy wager on Brown winning re-election.
