I've been meaning to write this for awhile now. Longtime readers of this blog know that Steve Hunt is a friend and favorite of mine, and I will continue to stand by him in his next campaign to finish of Sen. Dave Marsden for good. You might recall that Sen. Marsden lost the ground game to Steve two years ago in their special election, but won the air war to squeek through a victory. Its no time now to abandon Steve, its time to help him finish the job.
The main focus of all of us must be to find the best conservative candidates to run for the State Senate. I've been around long enough now to remember the days when the state senate was "Republican," run by the trinity of John Chichester, Marty Williams, and Russell Potts. We have a chance to sweep the senate back to us with some very good and conservative candidates all across the commonwealth. But what makes Steve Hunt different than many of them is he has actually been elected and proven his conservative wares, even if it was a detriment to his career. On the Fairfax County School Board, perhaps home to some of the most noxious liberals in the county.
I know the knock on Steve, that he's lost more elections than he's won. But rarely have you seen someone run so consistantly and as a conservative, unaplologetically, throughout the years in this county when so many Republicans ran away from that label. He's also incredibly loyal, witness him standing by Pat Herrity in the 2010 GOP congressional primary, when so many other conservatives backed the insurgent Keith Fimian. Actually when I heard that, my esteem only grew.
Look, as we learned throughout the 2000s, having Republican "control" of the State Senate doesn't mean much. Its important to make sure we elect solid, conservative candidates and by that definition Hunt stands at the front of the line.
I was very impressed with Steve Hunt when he ran last time. If he can improve his campaigning he can win, and he would be a great asset in the senate.

Uh, does Hunt even have a campaign manager yet?

If Steve Hunt doesn't have a campaign manager, he must not be able to raise enough money for a credible campaign. What does that say about his support? Where's his base?
