I liked Jon Huntsman, despite his insistence on doing everything he could to make people like me not like him. Looks like he read the writing on the wall and saw he wasn't going to run and Romney is pretty clearly going to be the GOP nominee to many. Heck, I'd admit that because my support for Ron Paul is both pricipled and something of a protest vote.
So Huntsman is cashing in now before his endorsement becomes totally worthless and hoping to get the premier cabinet position. He's a young man in politics and still has a future . . . whether in the cabinet or perhaps for another elected office in the future.
He clearly wants to be president and is gaming that there is still time in the future.
The conservative field thus shrinks to Romney and Paul. Huntsman was the best of the three, in my view, but, as you observe, he's young enough to perhaps have another go at it if Obama is re-elected.

If Huntsman wants to go anywhere in the future he has to go to how-do-I-shed-my-arrogance school. He has zero ability to connect and communicate. He was so bad in presenting himself in this campaign, I posit that that the only way he was ever elected in Utah was the support of daddy, daddy and daddy. As is, if Huntsman runs again, the name that comes to mind is Harold Stassen.

Huntsman will have to compete with John Bolton!
