"It's the economy, stupid."
Because Romney doesn't offer a clear contrast to Obama, he is essentially stuck campaigning against the President exclusively on the economy. But what happens if the economy DOES get better? We all want that, I know I do. Romney has offered no deep economic vision besides the boardroom outlook that Romney has, there is nothing left.
I believe if Mitt Romney becomes the GOP nominee, we will essentially be roped into rooting against the economy getting better so we can say "I told you so." Its his only issue of contrast, the only bullet in his chamber. If its taken away, what do we have? At least Santorum (or Gingrich or Paul) offer a clear contrast on every issue to expose the President on that, I believe, will give us a bigger platform of attack and in some ways shield us from being the party rooting against economic recovery.
I become convinced every day that Mitt Romney will be decievely defeated by Barack Obama. We need an alternative.
I am voting for Ron Paul in the Virginia primary and believe much of what he has to say . . . but I've said it on Facebook and on here before, if there is a candidate who mirrors me most in every way its Santorum. I don't get to vote for Satorum, so I'll vote for Ron Paul with a clean conscience knowing that I'm giving my party a chance to offer a real choice and contrast to the President.
Good post. I agree. I can't believe we could nominate someone in Romney who has less contrast with Obama than McCain.

Right, Romney is Obama with a to-do list. Obama will have a similar sounding list that will be spun in the general and we know Obama doesn't care, in any event, on following through with promises.
