Though I'm not a tea partier myself (many don't care for may Paulish views), I think for the most part they have reinvigorated the conservative movement against the 1990s/2000s Bush-style Republicanism, to reassert Reagan values from the 1980s. The one change that angers me to no end is that the Tea Party is racist. The truth is the Tea Party has brought in some of the most diverse politicans of race, color, and background. Tonight we add another, as Cuban-bred Ted Cruz won the Republican nomination for the US Senate in Texas (and seems assured of winning the general, assuming we find neither a dead girl or a live boy in his background).
The fact is the Old Whit Man Party is that of the estalishmnet, of the George Bush, post-1988 Republican Party. When conservatism dominates the party over terms like "pragmatic," and "electable," we are able to reach a wider group array of voters and attract a move diverse set of candidates.
As it is, Senator Ted Cruz sounds pretty good. I'm hoping one day Virginia can add to this movement.
