The political and media class, also know as The Usual Gang of Idiots, is out in force now that Mitt Romney is the nominate, and this Gang of Idiots is telling anyone and everyone that Mitt Romney needs to pick Not Palin for his running mate. Vanilla senators like Rob Portman and John Thune, establishment governors like Mitch Daniels and Bob McDonnell, these are the names we hear over and over. Staid, conservative, solid, knowledgeable. Everything that this Gang of Idiots believes Sarah Palin is not. And by extension, the tea party and conservative grassroots itself.
But this relies on the great Myth of 2008. The myth that an unprepared nobody from Alaska set foot on a stage she wasn't ready for. The real story was a fully prepared politician from Alaska that didn't owe her rise to anyone in the political class. She was a visionary who saw Obama for what he is back then, she saw through the dazzling smile and the deceitful promises of hope and change. This Gang of Idiots on our side where just as impressed by Obama. They hate Sarah Palin because Sarah Palin became the star, and Sarah Palin had the guts to fight when so many of them didn't want to. Lets also not forget that Sarah Palin brought a buzz and a jolt of energy to a lackluster campaign run by this Gang of Idiots who were afraid of Obama and probably admired him, too. Palin ALMOST delivered the election to John McCain in 2008. They lost it. The Usual Gang of Idiots - headed by Steve Schmidt - blew that election and decided to blame Sarah Palin instead of take their responsibility for everything that has happened in the last four years. Schmidt and & get to go on Morning Joe as experts and Palin is ridiculed across the chattering classes. This is what we get when we let these guys tell us what to do. That is not to say I don't understand Palin's drawbacks. Her penchant for celebrity has hurt, as did understandable questions about someone who had been governor of Alaska for less than two years being able to handle the presidency. But in 2008 she was the best thing that happened to this party in 20 years. She was everything we claimed Republicans and conservatives are.
Now this Gang of Idiots, who lost 2008 while staring lovingly at the great Obama in admiration and to cover their asses they blamed and coordinated attacks on Sarah Palin that have stuck to this day. NOW these clowns have one of their own in Mitt Romney as the nominee and they want to erase everything Palin brought to our party and marginalize the tea party by advocating for Republican Joe Biden to be Vice-President.
John McCain has always been someone I've admired, I've said it my entire life. His 2000 campaign got me interested in politics and I always respected his maverick instincts. Is he a tea party conservative? Hardly, but I believe his independence from the political class was the greatest part of his story and the last dash of that was picking Palin. It was a masterstroke and if he hadn't allowed his people ruin it, it might have worked.
Now is not the time for Mitt Romney to shrink from his own masterstroke. There are serious men and women out there, experienced and conservative, true reformers that Romney should look at. Look past the poll testing, look past the what the Gang of Idiots say. Dare to be daring. I don't mind learning from Palin in terms of her experience, but also learn from Palin how a presidential candidate not trusted by all ends of the party can bring it all together in this choice.
So then, Mr Big Mouth, what about names? I'm sure you are wondering. Well, I've got some.
- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie
- Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn
- Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers
- Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling
- Iowa Rep. Steve King
