First, let me say this. I intend on voting for George Allen this November for the US Senate. I wouldn't exactly call it the proudest vote of my life, but such is life when these are our choices. I have chronicled my complaints about George Allen for two years and running. I'm not going to jump up and down now, but basically he's an political dinosaur with a damaged brand who, to me, is running for his own personal rehabilitation. There are major issues in this country now that I doubt Senator Allen would do much to fix. But at least there is some hope.
Tim Kaine, on the other hand, might be the worst kind of politician. Its not that he's a raving liberal brandishing the fear politics of the left. It is actually the exact opposite. Kaine is an unimaginative generic politician who we need less of in this country, not more. A senate full of Rand Pauls and Ron Wyden's will get more done than 100 Tim Kaines. He's a creature of other people, of Mark Warner and Barack Obama. He is a lackey, someone who will loyally tow the party line 100% of the time rather than be a bold and imaginative leader. He proved as governor to be neither.
The biggest problem with our political system today is conformity. Money to hold public office flows out of Washington DC where the two parties might as well be federal departments. In order to move up, you have to be like everyone else. We have a Capitol full of drones and lemmings, and Tim Kaine will fight right in. He's not there to do anything but be a professional Democrat to go along with all the professional Republicans already there. George Allen isn't much better, but he at least at one point he forged his own career and lead a movement rather than be lead.
Unfortunately neither Tim Kaine nor George Allen will do anything to help America recover from what thousands of politicians just like them have turned this country into over the past generation. But such is the choice forced upon us when the two parties have been institutionalized
