There have been several things that have gotten me to a point where I have wanted to write about technology in politics. The first was the Obama 2012 campaign and their incredible use of all different forms of technology. Second, looking to delve further into Team Obama’s success and trying to find out where this all started, I read Joe Trippi’s great book The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, where he outlines the theory of an open source campaign that he did with Howard Dean. Third, as my interest and admiration for Ron Paul has grown so has my interest in how he used the internet and technology in general. Lastly, in my work I have become associated with Red Hat, open source, and the theories of free software communities that could be applied to something like political campaigns.
