So what are we going to do hear? Even the deepest partisans in the GOP understan what a uphill climb this will be, to defeat Mark Warner. He's popular and that's just a fact. So what are we to do? Give it to a rich guy who can self-finance like Pete Snyder, a conservative warrior like Mike Farris, or an insider with DC ties like Howie Lind?
The reason I bring up thse three gentlemen is they are the three names so far that have been brought up (Lind has already announced he's running). Of the three I probably would support Farris, but then again I'm a sucker for the underdog in intra-party races so I'm probably not the best barometer for this kind of thing. I also think this nomination could be very worthwhile to someone who is a young, up-and-comer who wants to make a name for themselves by running a good race. After all, Mark Warner's career began by running an uphill race against and unbeatable incumbent. So who is out there that could fit the bill? Here are some thoughts:
- Ben Cline
- Barbara Comstock
- Scott Rigell
- Sean Connaughton
- Jill Holtzman Vogel
I would give a long rambling explaination on each, but I'm no smarter than anyone of you guys. What do you think?
