A chaotic episode erupted in the Virginia gubernatorial race late Wednesday, as The Associated Press published and then retracted a story that said court documents alleged Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe lied to a federal official.
AP sent a news alert at 9:45 p.m. that read “Court records: McAuliffe lied to postal inspector investigating RI death benefits scam,” followed by a story. The story said McAuliffe’s campaign had not responded to requests for comment.
The campaign swiftly denied the story to NBC 12 in Richmond, a response it confirmed to POLITICO.
“The person referenced on page 68 is absolutely not Terry McAuliffe since he was a passive investor and did none of the things referenced,” spokesman Josh Schwerin said in a statement.
In a statement at 11:25 p.m., AP said it had withdrawn the story.
“The indictment did not identify McAuliffe as the ‘T.M.’ who allegedly lied to investigators,” the statement said.
Sometimes Republicans get a little carried away when we call the Democrats the party of death, because of abortion. I mean, we love us some capital punishment so it kind of evens out. But anyways, I'm pretty sure there is no hyperbole when it comes to THIS:
RICHMOND, Virginia — Documents in a federal fraud case allege that Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe lied to a federal official investigating a Rhode Island estate planner now imprisoned for receiving death benefits on annuities secured on terminally ill people without their knowledge.
A 2011 fraud, conspiracy and identity theft indictment against Joseph Caramadre and an aide, Raymour Radhakrishnan, also alleges that McAuliffe misled a federal postal inspector who was inquiring about a $2,000 check Caramadre had sent him.
McAuliffe's name surfaced in a long list of Caramadre investors presented in a Wednesday court hearing in Providence, Rhode Island
McAuliffe's campaign did not immediately respond to email and phone requests for comment about the allegation.
Frankly, for all the shit Ken Cuccinelli gets from the MSM and the left about being a whacko-bird this is beyond the pale. The Democrats have never exposed themselves ot this kind of hypocrisy ever. Terry McAuliffe is a plutocrats plutocrat, and if he weren't pro choice he would be as reviled by the left as any Republican. He's a rich businessman who's made his money off of no discernible actual business but rather a steady stream of influence peddling in politics.
And now he was part of an investment into a guy who defrauded death benefits? He literally made money off of people dying, ripping them off.
Disgraceful. I DARE anyone on the left to come onto this blog and defend this without saying "but Ken Cuccinelli did ..." Its a pox on all of us that this near-criminal is a nominee of any major (or minor) party in Virginia.
