Boyd Marcus is going to work for Terry McAuliffe. What is this, Game of Thrones?
Please please please, do not believe the bullshit he spewed out about wanting to back a candidate that will work together. This is not a man who has ever been interested in working with Democrats in his entire life. This is a man who is part of a machine that lead the way in the Gingrich 90s for a Republican Party of strident partisanship. This was the party of punching soft teeth down whiny throats, of Oliver North for Seante, and of accusing Jim Webb of being a pedophile. When I read his quote for justification, I laughed nearly out of my chair. This has nothing to do with working with Democrats, trust me. It makes me chuckle when I hear these guys talk about how partisan and nasty Ken Cuccinelli is. I've followed his career for a long time, and while he's always been principled and conservative, he's never been nasty because he came up in Northern Virginia. He couldn't be. He has always allowed people to think that, but even Democrats up here who really know know that Cuccinelli has won on his brains, guile, and hard work.
This is about money and power. Plain and simple, like it always is in politics. The gravy train is gone for guys like Boyd Marcus. They use to run this party and they do not anymore. This isn't about conservative or moderate, because frankly these guys like Marcus are no moderates. This is about insiders versus outsiders. The outsiders have won. Instead of being the good soldier like he preached for years and years to the rest of us, he's tucked tail and run. He hasn't even run to someone who holds the qualities he claims he's looking for. Terry McAuliffe? Really, Boyd? Bill Clinton's Chinese bag man?
The people who I really feel sorry for are all the volunteers and employees who have worked for Boyd and, most recently, Bill Bolling. I'm sure they have no love loss for me, but he's embarrassed them and possibly hurt their chances for employment in the future. Oh well.
For me, those are crocodile tears anyways.
