Of course, this only protect's Davis' seat if Davis doesn't withdraw from consideration for the house before the Senate primary is complete.

And do you think Davis would voluntarily concede the run for Senate to Cantor? It doesn't seem like Davis' style.

I can't vote for Davis for Senate, not after his positions on the war and on voting representation for DC (I am counting on the Senate to stop it, and if he ended up in the Senate that might be the tipping point)

I won't work to get him re-elected for the House either, but if November come around and there are two names on the ballot and one is his I'll probably vote for him anywasy.

I don't think Cantor has a chance against Warner, but that's neither here nor there. I questions I want to ask are:

Do Eric Cantor's accomplishments qualify him for the Senate?

If so, would Senator Eric Cantor be a good choice for Virginia?

My two cents: He's a Bush lackey, has not accomplished much and would be a poor choice for Virginians. But that's just how I feel, YMMV.

Bruce

The man is on track to become the first Jewish Speaker of the House and the first Speaker of the House from Virginia in quite some time. I hope he contiues his leadership in the House.

"Why not Eric Cantor?" Because he doesn't want the job. And even if he did, he wouldn't step on his fellow Marcus/Allen client, Jim Gilmore's toes.

"Eric Cantor can beat Mark Warner, make no mistake."

On what, pray tell, are you basing your interesting analysis. Statewide name recognition? Popularity? Or just "the strength of his conservative character."

Give me a break.

Chris - Mason Conservative

You Dems are so cocky.

What made anyone think Jim Webb could beat George Allen?

ANYTHING can happen in an election, and Cantor or Davis or Gilmore start ahead. Your overconifidence is worse than ours was. ANYONE can beat anyone in a race, and Eric Cantor has personality, money, and experience.

And what, pray tell, has Mark Warner ACTUALLY done beside leach of an economy built by the pro-government policies of 1990s Republicans lead by Allen and Gilmore. He raised taxes for a "recession" that his own administraiton lied about how deep it was. Oh yeah, he also lifted the tuition cap causing college to skyrocket.

I'll put any of the GOP candidates records against Mark Warner, who raised taxes and did nothing else in his entire 4 years.

And oh yeah, what did Mark Warner do about transportation.

Oh yeah, thast right.

"Nothing" would be the word.

DOn't think Republicans are going to roll over for Mark Warner any more than you guys did for George Allen. If Warner gets in, us GOPers haven't forgotten what you guys did to Allen and payback is coming.

All of you from Mark Warner on down better be ready. I can't WAIT for him to get in this race and get going.

Chris, Mark Warner did a lot for transportation - he was the key (and only) decision maker on rail to Dulles and making sure that it was an above ground rail and not a tunnel.

Warner was the guy for that who made the decision. Give him his due.

Rail to Dulles is a bad idea that should be euthanized.

Marshall

The only way rail to Dulles is feasible and sustainable long term would be underground. We'd pay more upfront, but it will be a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to maintain.
