Shaun Kenney's post on supporting Ron Paul is very good and said a lot of things I've been trying to put down on paper for awhile . . . I've read three of Paul books and done my homework on him. I'm impressed with the earnestness with which he speaks, the honesty of his politics, and his belief in the simple truth of liberty. Is he perfect? No. But nobody is, and since I only have two choices in the Virginia primary, I will be voting for Ron Paul and doing all I can to make sure Paul wins Virginia.
Mitt Romney is a fine man, a generic Republican, and can beat Barack Obama. However, I believe that Ron Paul - when fully understood - can also defeat Barack Obama and he will bring with him a much more conservative administration. Do I suffer from the delusion that somehow Paul is the favorite? Well, let me just say this . . . in terms of organization, money, and energy who has put together the most professional campaign this year? Its not Rick Perry, its not Newt Gingrich, and its not Mitt Romney. If Paul is so terrible to so many, why is he constantly polling in the top two in every state across the country? At some point, we need to decide if winning just so our side can control all the levers of power in Washington is what we really want to do? I'm not a Republican because I want to fill every office with Republicans to exercise the same power to tax me, control me, tell me what I can and can't do as progressives do. I'm a Republican because I believe this party is the vehicle America needs to bring true liberty back to this cradle of Democracy. But if we are in this just to get our people in federal offices, what the hell is the point?
If you want to go after me for supporting someone who "hates Israel," is a "truther," then lets have that conversation. But with the simple choice in Virginia of Paul versus Romney, my conscience dictates that Paul is my candidate.
Ron Paul for President.
Ron Paul was a "truther." He has not denied those ideas that I know about.
Any sane person who watched the towers come down and is a truther should not be trusted with a leadership position. Shame on you for crawling under the sheets with a truther person.

Chris,
I'm not going to get into Ron Paul's idiotic foreign policy because at least that's somewhat legitimate regardless of my own level of agreement.
But how you could associate yourself with a borderline neo-Confederate, Jew-hating conspiracy nut quasi-truther crank is beyond me. The man either should be yanked off the political stage in a butterfly net or he is simply crazy (in which case he should be escorted off the stage by doctors).
As much as is possible with a blogger who is by definition an impersonal stranger, you disappoint me. You're better than this.

Ron Paul is neither a Truther nor an Anti-Semite. He is simply a defender of liberty forged in the old Goldwater Conservative mold and frankly that is exactly what this country needs.
